At the end of the pandemic, Elda revisits her life through ironic and painful memories. Blending reality and fiction, the story reveals her complex bond with the Other and the paradoxical condition of being “Inutilmentefiga.”
It is May 28th, 2021. The pandemic is finally coming to an end, and Elda finds herself taking stock of her life. A series of strange coincidences — or perhaps tricks of fate — pulls her back through the years, making her relive her life in a carousel of absurd, funny, happy, sad, and at times moving memories. In a skillful work of autofiction, precariously balanced between flashes of reality and invented yet entirely believable stories, the author drags the reader into a semi-serious, grotesque, at times surreal account of the protagonist’s relationship with “the other,” a relationship that gradually takes on different forms and weights depending on her age. “Inutilmentefiga” is a condition of being, a way of thinking and acting that always leads you to make mistakes or do the wrong thing, even when you know perfectly well what the right thing would be.
