Green, by age or by temperament. Little girls, girls and women told in their most natural desires: to have a mother after the death of the biological one, and to manifest it with incessant sobbing; to seek a good teacher or schoolmaster, with mixed fortunes; to earn money in imaginative ways; to confront the loss of a little brother and make sure that the mourning does not bury you too. Dripping with young sap, with their hair perpetually dishevelled, the protagonists of these tales have suffered some unwanted pruning, and their trunks are twisted and crooked, but they find their own way of growing and finding space among stronger and more regular trees, their own way of existing, of loving and of not giving up.
Daniela Gambaro returns - after winning the Premio Campiello Opera Prima 2021 - to short stories, with a voice of childhood and hope, with measure and irony, and enchants us once again.
